Domaine La Taupe
– Loire, France
Bertjan Mol has been a natural wine importer in Amsterdam since 2003. In August 2017, he made a pivotal decision and left the Netherlands with his wife and three children to embark on a new chapter in the Loire region, situated three hours southwest of Paris.
Inspired by Bruno Allion, a retiring vigneron in Thésée, the Mol family acquired Bruno’s 6.5 hectares of vineyards. Here, @domainelataupe, they embraced biodynamic practices while continuing their natural wine import business, @bruutwijnimport.
Their winemaking philosophy revolves around minimal intervention—no filtration, limited sulfite additions—and meticulous vineyard care, particularly on Sauvignon. They also explore techniques like skin maceration, and their pet-nat crafted from Cabernet grapes has gained recognition. We had the pleasure to try his AK 400 Gamay recently: lots of fruit and full of life, even after the bottle had been open for a day! Vibrant!
In Bertjan Mol’s own words: “Making natural wine is following my intuition and feelings, being creative, improvising, and working hard at the mercy of the elements. I look forward to sharing the wines with you.”
