Stefan Buchmayer
– Pillersdorf, Austria
Stefan Buchmayer is forging his own path in the Weinviertel region of Lower Austria, cultivating 2,5 hectares of biodynamic vineyards that have been part of his family’s legacy for generations. While his family produces both conventional and natural wines, Stefan has chosen to focus exclusively on natural winemaking for his debut vintage.
The Retz area is known for its diverse, mineral-rich soils, shaped over centuries by the region’s rolling hills and ancient rock formations. Stefan´s vineyards are rooted in a mix of loess, clay, and granite, which lend complexity and depth to his wines. The cooler climate, combined with fresh winds from nearby forests and long sun exposure, creates ideal growing conditions for varietals like Riesling and Grüner Veltliner.
Following the family tradition of fostering a living, biodiverse vineyard, Stefan uses techniques like compost-tea applications, fermented rye, and plant diversity to promote soil health.
This dedication to purity and nature is evident in Stefan´s first collection of wines, which include a Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc blend, Muscat and Pinot Noir. NWFA is excited to present the wines of this talented winemaker to the Dutch market.
