GlowGlow
– Nahe, Germany
The Nahe region has a 2,000-year winemaking tradition. And this is where Carl & Pauline Baumberger, the duo behind Glow Glow Wines, craft accessible yet distinctive wines, with a focus on Riesling and Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder in Germany).
As young winemakers continuing their family’s legacy while transitioning from conventional winemaking to organic winemaking to natural winemaking within one generation, they’ve encountered their fair share of challenges.
The 2022 vintage is their fourth vintage, distinguished by its concentration and vitality. It also marks the first time they’ve chosen to release it in two phases, affording some wines more time to mature in the cellar while others continue their slow fermentation.
The 2022 Fizzy Deutscher Perlwein, one of GlowGlow’s three sparklings, is a blend of five grape varieties – including Müller-Thurgau for structure, Bacchus for a floral touch, Scheurebe for fruitiness, a hint of Muskateller for lychee notes, and Riesling for acidity. Each lending individual characteristics.
The Pink Fizzy Deutscher Perlwein fulfills a long-held wish for a rosé sparkling. Crafted from a blend of Dornfelder and Müller-Thurgau, it surprises with its serious undertones and harmonious blend of flavors like tannins and fruit.
The second vintage of Nahegauer Landwein Rot, a cuvée of Regent and Dornfelder, is even more juicy and joyful than the first. With its light color, cheerful character, low alcohol, and high fruit, it’s a wine that brings ease.
