Mouzon Leroux
– Champagne, France
Mouzon-Leroux & Fils is a family-owned winery in the Grand Cru village of Verzy, in the Montagne de Reims, with a winemaking tradition dating back to 1776.
Today, Sébastien Mouzon leads the estate, continuing his family’s legacy with a focus on biodynamic farming, certified by Demeter since 2008. The estate spans 8 hectares, with vineyards primarily planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, alongside rare varieties like Arbane, Petit Meslier, and Pinot Blanc.
Sébastien embraces sustainability through biodynamic and agroforestry practices, planting over 1,300 trees and shrubs in the vineyard. Chickens and sheep graze during winter, naturally enriching the soil. In the cellar, Mouzon-Leroux applies spontaneous fermentation with local yeasts, minimal sulfur use, and extended lees aging. Their Champagnes are crafted without filtration or clarification, highlighting the purity and minerality of the Verzy terroir.
Among their creations, L’Ascendant is a Solera-style Champagne that is rich and complex, with nutty and spicy notes. A vertical blend of vintages, it showcases the purity and depth of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Verzy. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, Incandescent is a Brut Nature Rosé with a 19-hour maceration, delivering intense red fruit flavors and a delicate, fresh finish.
