Torre degli Alberi
– Lombardia, Italy
Oltrepò Pavese, a wine region that’s only 40 kms south of Milan, is probably one of the best kept secrets in Italy. And the Dal Verme family that is Torre degli Alberi, has been rooted here for centuries. Today the domain is led by Camillo and Filippo Dal Verme and they make a fantastic spumante.
Located 500 meters above sea level, the steep, south-facing slopes and calcareous-clay soil, enriched over decades by the grazing of Limousine cattle, provide an ideal environment for Pinot Noir, the grape at the heart of their wines.
The vineyard is managed without herbicides or pesticides, and their winemaking process is just as meticulous: slow, soft pressing and extended aging sur lie for up to 60 months result in sparkling wines rich in flavor and complexity, with extremely low sulfite content.
Among their standout wines is Cruasé, an Oltrepò Pavese Classic Method Pinot Nero Brut Rosé DOCG, known for its elegant floral notes and balanced acidity. Another favorite is the Zero Dosaggio, aged for a minimum of 36 months on the lees and bottled without liqueur de dosage. Bone-dry and a very classic expression of sparkling Pinot Noir, it offers fine fruit, toasty notes, and remarkable depth of flavor.
