Masseria La Cattiva
– Apulia, Italy
Located in the heart of Puglia, seven friends – Leonardo, Alfredo, Paolo, Michele, Loreto, Manfredi, and Marianna – craft wines that defy easy categorization. The wines of La Cattiva are out-of-the-box and not easy to label. Some may challenge you, some are incredibly approachable, but each one is unique.
Their journey began in 2018, when Marianna introduced her friends to an abandoned masseria, sparking a shared dream to revive its vineyards. By 2019, they had leased the land and set their ambitions in motion.
Set on 7 hectares of limestone-rich soil at 280 meters above sea level in Gioia del Colle, their vineyards are home to a selection of southern Italian varieties: Primitivo, Negroamaro, Aleatico, Montepulciano, Aglianico, Trebbiano, Malvasia Bianca, and Malvasia Nera. These grapes are organically farmed and hand-harvested to produce a diverse range of reds, whites, and spumantes.
“88 Ancestral Keys” is an unconventional sparkling wine that mirrors the improvisational spirit of jazz. Made using the ancestral method, it combines red grapes vinified in white with spontaneous fermentation and zero sulfites.
“Have you met my Friend Dennis? Hi. I’m Dennis. Dennis From Queens” is a rosé vinified in steel and Demijohns, primarily from red grapes. It balances softness and fruity depth, with a small portion of red grapes macerated for four days to add complexity and aromatic intensity.
