Masseria La Cattiva
– Apulia, Italy
Located in the heart of Puglia, seven friends – Leonardo, Alfredo, Paolo, Michele, Loreto, Manfredi, and Marianna – craft wines that defy easy categorization. The wines of La Cattiva are out-of-the-box and not easy to label. Some may challenge you, some are incredibly approachable, but each one is unique.
Masseria La Cattiva is a small organic estate in Puglia with eight hectares of vines and about ten thousand bottles a year. The vineyards are worked by hand and trained to counter espalier and traditional marquee systems. Primitivo and Trebbiano lead the plantings, supported by minor native Apulian grapes.
The approach is biological from soil to cellar. The farm is certified by Accredia and Suolosalute. No added sulfites. Fermentation is always spontaneous with native yeasts.
In the cellar they mix old habits with clear, modern intent. Most lots ferment and age in stainless steel, with select wines raised in amphora and barrel where it suits the fruit. No selected yeasts, no shortcuts, and interventions are kept to what is essential.
The goal is simple. Grow clean grapes, let them speak, and keep the character of Puglia intact. The wines are direct, vibrant, and honest, shaped by careful farming and thoughtful experimentation rather than formula
