Gerações de Talha
– Alentejo, Portugal
Talha wine is a natural wine that honors its terroir and uses the entire grape, including skin and seed.
Gerações is a family business focused on production and promotion of the genuine art that is Talha Wine. Located in Vila de Frades, in the heart of Alentejo where 2.000 years ago, the Romans introduced the culture and the
production method of this wine. This cellar, from the 18th century, has revealed itself as the perfect historical monument for the craftsmanship of the Talha wine. Since the Roman occupation, this culture has been passed on from generation to generation, which allowed its techniques to survive. It was our great-grandfather Francisco Nogueira Anacleto who acquired the celllar and produced large quantities of wine and Aguardente in order to supply all Alentejo in fairs, taverns and restaurants.
Talha wine is a natural wine that honors its terroir and uses the entire grape, including skin and seed. Fermentation happens spontaneously in the Talha, generating carbon dioxide that pushes solid elements to the surface, creating
a thick layer. This layer is “reassembled” twice daily with a wooden tool to prevent bursting and facilitate the transfer of grape components to the wine. After fermentation, the skin and seeds settle at the bottom, forming a “mother”
where the wine matures for 3 to 4 months. Finally, the wine is naturally filtered through the “mother” and drawn off through a tap at the bottom of the Talha.
