Storchi Vini
– Val d’Enza, Italy
Storchi is a small, family-run estate in Emilia-Romagna, within the Colli di Scandiano e Canossa appellation.
The brothers manage just three hectares of vines along the Enza River at about 150 meters above sea level. The soils here are alluvial, rich in clay and limestone, with gravel that keeps the roots dry and deep. The river’s breeze and the wide temperature swings between day and night create ideal conditions for balanced, aromatic fruit.
The vineyards are farmed naturally and biodynamically, without irrigation, herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers. Yields are kept low through careful pruning and thinning to concentrate flavor and texture. The varieties are local and classic: Lambrusco Salamino, Lambrusco Maestri, Ancellotta, plus small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.
In the cellar, the work follows the same quiet discipline. Fermentations are spontaneous with native yeasts, there is no filtration or chemical intervention, and sulfur use stays under 30 mg per liter. Each lot is tasted daily throughout fermentation and aging to track its natural course. The wines are alive and unforced, shaped by rhythm, patience, and close observation rather than control.
As the family puts it: the land teaches labor and time, the vines teach hope, and harmony comes from listening. Storchi’s wines reflect that philosophy—Lambrusco that speaks clearly of its place, full of energy and honesty, guided more by nature than by human hand.
