Marcel de Cocq, natural wine writer on Instagram @marcel.de.cocq, will give a ‘volatile’ workshop at Natural Wine Festival A’dam. ‘Volatile’ since it involves the conversation about the impact of sulfites and that’s a hotly debated subject.
Marcel is NOT dogmatic when it comes to sulfites. “Sometimes a wine simply needs sulfites to stay stable”. But he does plead for transparency in natural winemaking about the amounts of sulfites added.
“With time, skill, care, and patience it is proven possible to create clean, stable, sensational natural wines full of vitality. Therefore, especially for natural wines, it’s crucial that a wine label tells exactly how much sulfites were added. Simply the supermarket statement ‘Contains sulfites’ is not enough. Natural wine should be less shady (than conventional wine) and must be more principled.”
This masterclass is both a talk and a philosophical conversation in which every participant is invited to join. Marcel will present three wines to taste to illustrate his perspective and to elevate the conversation.
